Hello and welcome to Nurture & Nanny’s September Newsletter!

August came and went but it was a great month!  One of my best friends got married, I celebrated a birthday, the Nurture & Nanny family grew with fantastic new nannies and we had the opportunity to place them in homes with such wonderful families.

I also had the chance to spend a week in Big Bear with Camp Laurel - camplaurel.org.  I had such an amazing time and met so many wonderful people.  The children I met were full of love and laughter and the whole experience was simply inspiring.  I conquered the art of mountain biking and learned that all you have to do to scare away a bear is just sing a little bit louder.

Find something to do that inspires you and share your story with us!

Enjoy the last days of summer and welcome back to school!

All the best,

Lara

Seeds of School Success
Typically people think of spring as the time to plant seeds. With the proper nurturing, they will grow into beautiful plants that will be pleasant and productive, a source of satisfaction after time well-spent on care. Although spring may be thought of as a planting time, people in California understand that that season can be year round. Now it is time to plant seeds for school success. Parents and caregivers who tend to this important task will reap many benefits with the children in their care.
The Transitional Object or The Security Blanket
A child sleeping in a strange place or away from his mother, cries out for his "blanket" or special doll. Receiving it, she clutches it desperately, and begins to calm down. She then goes back to sleep. What is it about the special object-- a transitional object-- that comforts a child in such a soothing way? Why is it desirable for every child to have one? How do you help a child develop an attachment to one if he doesn't develop one on his own? What are some of the special problems involved with transitional objects?
