- Hello and Welcome to Nurture & Nanny's July Newsletter!
Last month I began my much delayed spring cleaning and stumbled upon an old box of books from my time as a teacher. Looking through all these books brought back fond memories of the days when I would read them aloud in the classroom.
One book in particular caught my attention, The Best Time of Day, by Valerie Flourney. The book is about a boy named William and how he spends his day. It begins with the sentence "Sometimes William thinks early morning is the best time of day" and it ends with the sentence "William thinks his favorite time of day is early evening."
Just like William, I am unsure as to what part of my day is my favorite. Is it early in the morning when I get a call from a new family? Is it in the middle of the day when we meet exceptional nannies referred to us from our present nannies? Or is it at the end of the day when I have the chance to sit back and reflect on all that we have accomplished for that day? I think it's a mixture of all three that make my days truly enjoyable.
When your children or the children in your care come home from school or get ready for bed, ask them what their favorite part of their day was. And before you retire for the night, ask yourself that same question. Make sure to have at least one favorite part to each of your days.
Have a wonderful July!
All the best,
Lara

When the nothing to do words ring out (or behaviors show up in the younger ones in your care) be ready to build on interests that will last a lifetime.
